While cruising the wonderful shops Old Ballard Ave has to offer, I stumbled upon a guide called Unscene. It calls itself the urban navigator and America's voice for independent business.
Its goal: "to emphasize the value and ingenuity of independent business"
Why do I love it? Because the guide unfolds to unveil a map and a plethora of wonderful boutiques and independent stores. It highlights shops, restaurants, cafes, and more with pictures and information and also plots them on a easy to read map. There is also a section for events. As their website puts it: "it is a chic, portable, functional guide of the valuable amenities that make the urban experience unique."
For Seattle, there is 1 pamphlet for Downtown, Belltown, Capitol Hill and South Lake Union and then 1 for Ballard, Fremont, Phinney, Greenwood, and Wallingford.
It is a great way to discover all of the hidden gems that make Seattle's neighborhoods distinctive.
Another great use? If you plan to visit Atlanta, Austin, Brooklyn, Chicago, San Francisco, or any of the other cities Unscene has worked up, take an Unscene guide with you and discover the independent spirit of your vacation destination!
If you'd like a copy of either Seattle map give us a text or email and we'll be happy to send them you way.
