A Streetcar Named Seattle

The South Lake Union route of the Seattle Streetcar will be off and running on December 12th! The Grand opening celebration will have music, refreshments and some words by Mayor Nickels followed by the cutting of the ribbon to officially open the route for use. It will all take place on 12/12 beginning at 11:30 at the Westlake and Olive Hub of the route.

According to Vulcan's South Lake Union Discovery Center, riders will be able to get a South Lake Union Passport and use it to check out the many neighborhoods of SLU and collect stamps from the participating businesses. They will then be able to turn in their completed passports to win prizes at the Discovery Center.

Rides on the Streetcar will be free of charge for the month of December and will then begin charging on January 1st. The South Lake Union line of the streetcar will have 11 stations and run every 15 minutes. It will travel from Fairview and Ward in Eastlake/SLU to Westlake and Olive Downtown. It will conveniently connect passengers with other public transportation such as Metro buses, trains, light rail, the Monorail, and the ferries.
